U16 Central League Division 1 Semi-Final
An Ghaeltacht 0-15 Austin Stacks A 1-11
Our under 16A side bowed out of the Central League competition at the semi final stage following an agonising defeat in Gallarus on Wednesday evening. The game was nip and tuck throughout and we took a one point lead in at half time with Éamonn McAllen and Greg Horan being the star men in a first half in which we had points also from Tommy Nicholson, James Galvin, Eoghan McKivergan and Kyle Fitzgibbon. However following trading points from Greg and Kyle we lost our grip on affairs for a 10 minute period period during which Gaeltacht struck four unanswered points to take a four point lead. However with the introduction of the inspirational Ciarán Flanagan and new recruit Jesse O’Sullivan our fortunes took a turn for the better. Flanagan picked up ball after ball around the middle and in the 50th minute raced in on goal before slipping the ball to O’Sullivan who expertly found the net. We were now in the acendency and O’Sullivan was unlucky to see another shot go agonisingly wide. Howver with five minutes remaining Flanagan again made inroads on goal before he was brought to the ground in what seemingly was inside the large parallelogram for a penalty. Controversially however the referee said the indiscretion occured outside the penalty area and a 14 yard free was awarded. Kyle Fitzgibbon duely dispatched and the game was level heading into injury time. There was time for a winner however and a free 50 yards from goal was dispatched expertly by Séamus Ó Muircheartaigh to give the west boys the spoils and a place in the final.
