Junior District League: Austin Stacks C 1-5; Ballymac B 3-6.
On a very wet evening Tuesday 6th July, in Connolly Park we put up a very good show in this fourth and final round of the Tralee/St. Brendan’s League with a relatively young team. We conceded 2-1 inside the opening three minutes and that was still the difference between the sides at the full time whistle. Goalkeeper, David Hennessy opened our account in the 8th minute with a well-taken 45 and our only other score of the half came from a point from play in the 14th minute by Philip Quilter. The Ballymac boys led at half time by 2-4 to 0-2.
We had a very good third quarter scoring 1-3 to just one point for the opposition to leave us just a goal down at the second water break (2-5 to 1-5). Our goal came twenty seconds after the resumption when Daniel O’Rourke put Harry O’Callaghan through for a cracker. Daniel himself then added two points in quick succession, both from frees, and our third point of the quarter came from Dean Scanlon from play.
However, with conditions worsening we failed to score during the final quarter while Ballymac added a goal and a point to claim a deserved victory.
