SENIOR HURLING:
Lixnaw 2-8; Austin Stacks 0-9.
We were playing exceptionally well in Round 2 of the Co. League played in Lixnaw this Wednesday evening (22nd June) and in the lead by 0-4 to 0-2 after twenty four minutes.
But in the remaining six minutes of the half we conceded two sloppy goals and trailed by 2-4 to 0-5 at half time. Our early scores came from Paul Daly, Peter Doyle (free), a huge effort by Ronan Gilsenan from over seventy yards out, and one by John McCarthy from an acute angle over his shoulder.
Then that first Lixnaw goal was followed by another super point from play by Bella. The home side added another 1-2 before the break and we were never able to recover from those goals despite heroic efforts by some of our lads, notably Michael O’Leary and Kieran McCaughley at midfield and every member of the defence.
In the second half it was even steven, with both sides scoring four each, ours coming from three Peter Doyle frees and one from play by Ronan Gilsenan.
Both sets of defenders were on top all through.
