Sunday last, 17th April, saw a great evening’s Gaelic football at 7pm in Connolly Park when 3 Under 12 teams togged out to face Listowel Emmets in the first of this season’s games. The Rockies were well prepared and the new “Go Games” format did not phase them at all. Indeed they all really enjoyed the matches and all 38 players got plenty of the ball. The new format allows players to try out in different positions and with 11-aside matches all players get more chance to show off their skills.
The C team managed by Pat Slattery and Eamonn Linnane were unfortunate to lose 2-5 to 7-4, but the manager’s were delighted with the boys who are really improving their skills. The B’s won 7-11 to 3-4, and Kieran Kelliher and Jerry Fitzmaurice were very happy with the effort the lads put in. The A’s – managed by Jim O’Connor and Eamonn O’Reilly – won 2-13 to 4-4, and while they had been winning well at half time were unlucky to leak a few goals before the final whistle.
Training is on every Monday and Friday from 7pm to 8pm, in Connolly Park.
