U14 Girls Féile Report: We kicked off our Féile weekend with an impressive win over Killarney Legion FT Austin Stacks 5-6 Killarney Legion 1-1. Played in Connolly Park the Rockettes got some great scores from Heather,Grainne and Nicole to leave the Half Time Score 4-3 – 0-1 in favour of the home side. Legion scored an early goal from a free in the second half but back came the Stacks with a goal from Grainne and points from Ella and Kirby Anne to secure a great win. Next up was Cooraclare and despite some heroics and a never say die attitude we suffered a heavy defeat. Saturday morning at 10.15am we faced our visitors St. Ailbe’s – our very young team dusted themselves down and playing some beautiful football ran out comfortable winners on a score line of Austin Stacks 3-5 St Ailbe’s 3-0. We had now qualified for the Cup Quarter Final and headed to Abbeyfeale to face Downpatrick. Our girls put in a very gutsy display, a beautifully well taken goal by Heather Mac Namara being the highlight of the game but alas we just came up short and our Féile adventure concluded FT Downpatrick 1-5 Austin Stacks 1-1. It is worth noting that the only 2 teams to defeat us over the weekend were the eventual Cup finalists (Downpatrick overcame Cooraclare 0-4 to 0-3 in the final). So take a bow everyone – To Gillian, Anthony, Danny, Pat thank you for your time and effort with the girls. Thank you to Darragh for your enthusiasm, energy and footballing know how. You gave it your heart and soul. To the parents who hosted and supported our club events over the weekend – thank you. Finally thank you to Maurice and Elma for the amazing support you provide to the girls. The amount of time, effort and selfless devotion to the girls is an example to us all. We came so close! The future is bright.
