Minors: In October the Austin Stacks Ladies Club were proud to host inaugural Kerry Ladies Co. Board ‘Helen Dowling Memorial Minor Blitz’ (aptly named after one of the stalwarts of our club). It is hoped that this competition will continue and be developed over the coming years. A Tralee Minor team made up of a very strong Austin Stacks contingent won the County Minor Championship.
U12/14 – Underage we enjoyed success with our Under 14’s winning the North Kerry Div. 3, U13’s were narrowly beaten in the semi final of the Co. Championship by eventual winners Glenflesk, U12’s had a great season winning the Div. 2B Co. League final and the Div. 2. North Kerry Shield Final. U16’s was a disappointment as we failed to field a team and had to withdraw from competition. The club made effort, contacting players directly, organzing training sessions etc. but the response was v. poor with just 5/6 girls turning up for the sessions. In the end we had no choice but to claim defeat. We will try again for 2012.
Our Juvenile Academy catering for U10’s to U6’s runs from February to October every Sunday morning with the emphasis on learning the skills while having fun. Our U10’s and U8’s hosted and visited many clubs for ‘friendly’ games over the summer months.
Kerry Players: Continuing in our great tradition of producing Kerry players the Austin Stacks Ladies GAA wish to salute: U14 All Ireland Shield Final winner – Siobhan Breen, her coach our own Chris Flannery, our U16A All Ireland Final winners Laura Rogers & Karina Quilter & All Ireland Minor A Shield Final winners: Laura Rogers & Charlotte Higgins.
A great year for the Rockies was capped off by U16/Minor Laura Rogers winning the Munster Ladies Young Player of the Year. A remarkable achievement – Congratulations to Laura.
The presentation of the juvenile & minor medals took place last Sunday night at the very successful awards night organized by the Ladies club and the event was well attended by players and many parents. Our senior girls will receive their medals at the Stacks Social at January 28th.
