The Meadowlands Hotel was the place to be last Saturday night (1st March) where our annual Social took place. It was a night of celebration, in particular for our Hurling (South Kerry JH League champions) and Minor Football (County League champions) winning teams who were presented with their winners medals. Presentations were also made to Players of the Year – Greg Horan (MF), Eddie Barry (SH) and Daniel Bohan (SF). One of the highlights of the night was when Hayder Abdulsada received his Hurlers winning medal. Many Hurlers from outside the County have played with the Club down the years but Hayder must certainly be the first person from Iraq to play Hurling with any Irish team.
Hillary Stephenson won the Best Dressed Lady Prize and Dale Counihan and Paul Barrett could not be separated and, consequently, both received the Best Dressed Man Award.Special presentations were also made to John Collins (Colly) and Adrienne McLoughlin for their unstinting work for the Club. Inspiring speeches were made by Chairman, Aidan O’Connor, SF Team Manager, Stephen Stack and Club President Brendan Dowling. Thanks to the management and staff of the Meadowlands for great food and facilities and to the entertainment provided by Mid Night Café and our own Francie Breen, who also did MC on the night. Thanks also to all those who provided spot prizes and in particular to Sam Macauley, Chemists, Manor for their special door prize. A special thanks to Noreen Power, Mary McQuinn and Francie Breen who organized the whole event so successfully and of course to all who supported the Social by their attendance.

Hayder Alhashim from Iraq proudly shows off his South Kerry Hurling Championship medal which he won with Tralee’s Austin Stack Hurling Club. He received his treasured prize….a chéad bhonn iománaíochta….at The Rock Social in The Meadowlands Hotel on Saturday last. Hayder and his team are training hard with their new bainisteoir, Marcas de Paor, in preparation for this year’s junior championship and league when they hope to increase their store!!
