SENIOR HURLING:
Austin Stacks 4-12; Duagh 1-13.
In the second half, with a combination of we taking our foot off the pedal and Duagh hurling with much more urgency and skill, we were outscored by 1-10 to 1-2.
Our three first half goals came early in the game, with Michael O’Leary and Francie McLoughlin on target from play and Ronan Gilsenan’s sixty five going all the way to the net. In fairness to the Duagh Keeper he had to content with a very strong evening sun.
As well as our two centrefield men scoring those early goals, all our six forwards got on the score sheet in that first half.
Our two early second half points came from a long distant effort by wing back, Andrew Morrissey (36th minute) and one from an acute angle by Peter Doyle (38th minute).
We didn’t score again until the 53rd minute when Bella was again on target with our 4th goal. In between Duagh went on a scoring rampage, adding 1-8 to their total.
The last score – a point for Duagh came with six minutes to go.
Our defence held firm in those closing minutes, with David Wallace unerring in goal and all his front men playing capably as well.
