Our under 16A team made the ideal start to their county league campaign with a dazzling display of football in Ardfert on Wednesday evening. Our side were on their guard having fallen at the same venue in the Central League earlier in the season. Without the services of star midfielder Joseph O’Kelly there was concern also that five of our players namely Greg Horan, Eamonn McAllen, Conor Jordan, Barry Walsh and Kyle Fitzgibbon would suffer from their involvement in the minor championship defeat the night before but this was to be prove unfounded. McAllen in particular tormented Ardfert all night while Greg rose superbly to his new captains role and lorded midfield. Elsewhere debutants on this team Sam Nealon and Richard Hurley also had fine evenings. Having led by an impressive 11pts to 4 at half time we really opened up in the second half with the half forward line paring of Ciaran Flanagan and Eamonn McAllen contributing 1-6 between before Greg found the net from the spot and the impressive Jesse O’Sullivan goaled to leave the score 3-16 to 0-4 at the three quarters mark. Another 1-1 from Jesse followed by a point from the flying Richard Hurley and a goal from Eamonn completed the scoring.
