ELSEWHERE IN DIVISION 2
KERRY O’SHEA ROUNDS UP THE DIVISION 2 ACTION
John Mitchels, who narrowly missed out on promotion last year, got their 2009 Division 2 campaign off to a dream start after a 2-10 to 3-5 success away to Beale. Paul O’Donoghue and County under 21 star Alan O’Donoghue were the Mitchels goalscorers.
Elsewhere, Finuge travelled to East Kerry where they faced Glenflesk, and at the end of an entertaining affair, came away with a share of the spoils, the sides finishing level on a 0-12 apiece scoreline.
Kilcummin, who were relegated following a play-off with Ardfert at the end of last year’s Co League, had five points to spare over local rivals Killarney Legion in their opening round joust, emerging victorious on a 2-9 to 1-7 scoreline.
Kilcummin led by three points, 1-6 to 1-3 at the short whistle. Kieran O’Donoghue had Kilcummin’s first-half goal, while Tomas Moriarty raised a green flag for Legion. Christopher O’Leary scored Kilcummin’s second half goal.
Currow had a great opening round win when they had three points to spare over Castleisland Desmonds in their local derby clash, the home side winning on a 1-7 to 0-7 scoreline. The big talking point to emerge from this game was the injury sustained by Kerry star Seamus Scanlon.
Finally, Dingle, who were unlucky to lose out on promotion last year, welcomed All-Ireland Junior Champions Skellig Rangers as visitors to Pairc an Aghasaigh and came away with a fantastic 1-12 to 0-8 success to get their campaign off to a fantastic start.
