Congratulations to John Mitchels on their comprehensive win in the Final of the Co. League, their second win in as many years, played in Ballymac on this Sunday evening (20th May).
We failed to capitalize on a good early start, allowing Mitchels to take an early two points lead. Kyle Fitzgibbon opened our scoring with a pointed free in the 7th minute after a foul on Ciaran O’Connell.Mitchels added two more inside the 10th minute.
Our first score from play came in the 11th minute when Greg Horan put over.
Kyle was on target again from a free in the 15th minute.
Mitchels then went on a scoring spree, adding five without reply.
But Kyle keep us in touch with two more pointed frees. However Mitchels finished the half the stronger, adding two more points to leave them six ahead at the break (0-11 to 0-5).
By the 6th minute of the second half they had extended that lead to seven with two more points to one for us (by Danny Carroll from play).
However in the space of the next two minutes the game was really put beyond our reach with two well taken goals by the opposition.
They added a third in the 51st minute followed by two points for us by Eamon McAllen and Danny Carroll.
Eight minutes of added time was played due to a lengthy hold up for an injury and in that space of time the winners another five more points.
Joseph O’Kelly was our outstanding player of the game, but we all know that we are far better that this evening’s performance showed and we now have the upcoming Championship to prove that.
