SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-14; Glenflesk; 3-6.
In round 2 of the Co. League played in Connolly Park last Sunday afternoon (19th April) we emerged winners by two points after a workman-like performance.
A score of 1-14 will win most games and all those 15 scores came from play.
After a good start, with points by Fiachna Mangan and Mikey Collins inside five minutes, we found ourselves down for the first and only time in the game after twelve minutes following three unanswered points by Glenflesk.
A further five points by Darragh Long (2), Mikey Collins, Daniel Bohan and Denis McElligott, to one for Glenflesk, saw us three clear as we approached half time.
However on the 30th minute Glenflesk equalised with a good goal. From the kick out we won possession and moved forward. In the last game back in Annascaul, coming up to half time it was Daniel Bohan who place Star for a great goal. This time it was Star who place the onrushing Daniel and he rifled the net with a tremendous shot.
This left ahead by 1-7 to 1-4 at the break.
By the end of the third quarter the East Kerry side had moved to within one point of us after scoring 1-1 to two for us (Shane Carroll and Kieran Donaghy).
Between the 47th and 52nd minutes we stretched out lead again with four unanswered points from Daniel Bohan, Graham O’Connell, Fiachna Mangan and TJ Hogan. A Darragh Long point in the 55th minute, followed a similar one from Glenflesk.
Five minutes of added time was played and just before the final whistle Glenflesk were awarded a close in free and somehow Seamus Moynihan contrived to steer the ball into the roof of the net but the final whistle came from the kick-out for a deserved victory for us.
Daniel Bohan was nominated Man of the Match.
