The Rock’C’s had a tough start to their campaign, away to Moyvane. We arrived early for the 7.15pm throw in, but had to wait till 7.40pm for a ref to appear while you could say the ‘deck’ was packed. It was evident to see that some players were much better than their junior tag would suggest! Eventually the ball was thrown in just before 8pm. Moyvane opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a point from play, followed in the 4th minute by a goal from play by their midfielder. A couple of minutes later young Danny Carroll opened the scoring for the rock, with a point from play coming from good teamwork by Richie ‘drac’ long and our own Big Red, Don Quinn. Moyvane responded with 2 more points from play in the 11th & & 13th minutes. Danny answered with a well taken free from 40 yards on his left foot. The 18th & 19th minutes saw our downfall, Barry Galvin, who had a great game, made 2 superb saves, stretching full lenght only for the rebounds to land at Moyvane players feet for easy tap ins to net. Moyvane tagged on 2 more goals and 3 points before the end of the half while The Rock had a well taken point by young Alan Duggan. Sean Hurley(injured) was replaced by Macky in the 24th minute, while Nessan Crean, David Doyle and Boris Ivanov all came into the match at half time for Richie ‘gold dust’ Conway, Robert Powell and Richie Long.
Danny got his 3rd point from the throw in, while Moyvane pointed twice in the 34th & 35th minutes. It was all Stacks from this on, but we failed to make the possession count. Michael ‘all star’ Hogan saw his superbly struck penalty well saved before our final substitution was made, Kevin ‘young gun’ O’Carroll coming in at full forward for Don. We tagged on a few more points before the final whistle, but the fact that Moyvane were having their 7th game of the season compared to the rock having their 1st game, made a big difference.
There was alot to take from the game, touches of magic from the likes of Brian Dennihy, Ciaran O’Connell and Anthony Shanahan, while Paul Galvin & Tom McLaughlin held the forth in defence. Garry Lynch, David ‘Pecker’ Doyle and Michael Hogan all showed well, while ‘ween’ used his experience and frame well. Don Shanahan directed all from the side line in the absence of Seanie Power who’ll be back at the helm next Friday night in Connolly Park for our next match V Tarbert. Thanks to our faithful followers who travelled to Moyvane, looking forward to seeing more support on Friday.
