Club Notes 16th February, 2016.

February 16, 2016 By Martin Collins

SENIOR FOOTBALL: With most pitches saturated from the wettest winter on record, the heavy rain on late Saturday afternoon (13th Feb) really put the kaibosh on our Town League (R1) game going ahead at the Mitchels pitch later that evening.

So it’s now in the lap of the gods as to when any game will be played in the immediate future. With the Mitchels game to be rescheduled, our round 2 Town League game, against Na Gaeil is due to go ahead in Caherslee on next Sunday (21st Feb) at 12noon.Then we have away games against Ballymac (28th Feb) and Kerins O’Rahillys (13th March). The top two teams qualify for the Final, on a date to be confirmed.

BEST OF LUCK: to David Mannix and his DCU team as they take on UUJ in the Sigerson Cup semi final in Belfast on this Friday afternoon (19th Feb) at 3pm. In the other semi final UCD will play UL.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Like our Seniors, our Minors also had their Town League (R3) game against Ballymac postponed, also as a result of unplayable pitches – this after our round 2 game (against Na Gaeil) was postponed from the previous weekend.

Round 1 of the Co. League is scheduled for next Saturday (20th Feb). This game, against Firies, has now been switched to Farranfore, commencing at 4pm.

Our remaining games are away in rounds 2 and 3 – against Listowel (5th March) and Gneeveguilla (12th March).

In the two closing rounds of the competition we are at home – against Kerins O’Rahillys (on Easter Saturday, 26th March) with the 5th and final round, six days later, against Dr. Crokes (Friday, 1st April).

CONGRATULATIONS: to former Club Footballer, Don Shanahan and his wife Karan on the birth, last weekend, of a baby girl named Lucy – a grand daughter for Ted & Mary Shanahan and James & Assumpta O’Driscoll.

CONGRATULATIONS: also to the Kerry Hurlers who had a great start as newcomers to Division 1B of the NHL with a well-deserved seven points win over Laois (1-24 to 2-14) in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise last Sunday.

CLUBHOUSE: As always the Clubhouse is available for all types of Parties. For Bookings phone Des Griffin at 086 402 0808.

GET WELL SOON: Two great Rockies have been indisposed of late but we are glad to learn that both are well on the mend again. We hope to see both Brendan Breen and Michael Godley back in the Clubhouse very soon and Brendan, of course, also back at the Cards.

CARDS: The 45 Card Sessions continue in the Clubhouse on every Monday and Thursday nights, commencing at 9.30pm each night.

LOTTO: Last Night’s (15th Feb) Jackpot, worth €5,000, was not won. The numbers drawn were 15, 17, 18 and 23.

The €20 Winners were: Denis O’Sullivan and Killian Young, both c/o Carmel O’Neill; Susan Roche, c/o The Club; Brian Collins, c/o Martin Collins; and Helen Rowan, c/o John Breen.
