SENIOR FOOTBALL: The SF Co. Championship commences this weekend with two games on Friday evening, five games on Saturday evening and three on Sunday afternoon.
Our game against St. Brendans goes ahead on Saturday evening as part of a double header in Lerrig with a 6.30pm start. The second game between Ardfert and Kenmare starts at 8pm.
We wish team mentors William Kirby, Wayne Quillinan and Padraig O’Connor, the other backroom staff of Paudie McQuinn and Paudie Commane and the whole playing squad the best of luck.
SENIOR HURLING: The Co. League commences on this Wednesday evening (17th June). We have a home game against Crotta at 8pm.
We wish team mentors Brian Shanahan and Pat Murphy and the whole playing squad the best of luck.
JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: Listowel Emmets 3-10; Austin Stacks 1-7.
Our B team lost to Listowel in round 4 of the Co. League played in ideal conditions in Connolly Park last Friday evening (12th June).
A beautiful build-up from the throw in saw Pat Costello open the scoring after just 46 seconds. Listowel opened their account in the ninth minute and by the 21st minute were leading by five points to one.
David Mannix (from play) had our second point a minute later. We suffered two hammer blows in the closing minutes of the half with two Listowel goals.
A good run from midfield by Paul Barrett found Pat Costello and he put over his second to leave the North Kerry side ahead by 2-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Within four minutes of the resumption a David Mannix pointed free and one from play by St. John Hegarty saw us reduce the deficit a little but Emmets went on to score 2-5 without reply by the 52nd minute.
We put on a late burst in the closing minutes with points by Damien Quirke and centreback, Sean Purcell and a super goal by Dale Counihan but the game was well beyond us at that stage and Listowel ran out deserving winners.
Team: Jamie Kelly, Seamus Bastible, Gordon Kerins, Shane Fitzgerald, Liam Walsh, Sean Purcell (0-1), Brian Dennehy (Capt), Paul Barrett, Sean McCarthy, Don Quinn, Damien Quirke (0-1), St. John Hegarty (0-1), David Mannix (0-2 – 1 free), Pat Costello (0-2), Dale Counihan (1-0).
Subs: Gearoid McCann (ht), Thomas Moore (46m).
In round 5 we have a home game against Kerins O’Rahillys which was originally fixed for this Friday evening but this has been postponed due to the Senior game the following evening.
JUNIOR C FOOTBALL: Knockanure have withdrawn from the Co. League. Consequently our round 4 game did not go ahead last Friday evening (12th June).
So now with one round remaining (this is away to Churchill on this Friday evening – 19th June – at 7.30pm) we are on top of the League on 7 points.
U21 FOOTBALL: The U21F Co. Championship gets under way next week. We have been drawn away to Feale Rangers in the first round.
MINOR FOOTBALL: The MF Co. Championship is also scheduled to start shortly. We have been drawn away against Kilcummin.
