SCÓR na nÓG: Scór na Óg will take place at ‘Dúchas’ (MTU), headquarters of Kerry Comhaltas, on Saturday 7th November and a good night’s entertainment is assured.
PEIL FAOI 9/10: What a wonderful morning’s football was produced on Sunday last by the U9 and U10 boys in the finals of the Gary Fernane Cup and John Galvin Cup competitions. The games were played with great enthusiasm, unflagging gusto and fervent passion after the singing of Amhrán na bhFiann. Excitement was in the air, the atmosphere was electric agus, in ainneoin (despite) gaoithe fuaire, bhí sceitimíní an domhain ar na garsúin óga díograiseacha….agus ar na Mams, ar na Dads agus ar na Granddads….agus ar na meantóirí! Na foirne: Rockies, Black‘n’Amber, Street of Champions and The Rock. Captain Fionn Hegarty received the Garry Fernane Cup from Orlaith Ní Ghrífín, neach le Garry Fernane, and captain Evan Hurley received the John Galvin Cup. What an occasion! Lá dár saol….a day to remember!
The John Galvin Cup Final produced an excellent game between two evenly-matched teams….Street of Champions captained by Evan Hurley and The Rock captained by Brody O’Leary. The action was end-to-end and the teams were level at 1-3 each at half-time. The second half was just as competitive and, with time running out and the possibility of extra time looming, Dylan Lyons burst through to score the decisive goal for Street of Champions. For the victors, Evan played a captain’s role at midfield, defended with discipline, linked well with his attackers and picked off some well-taken scores himself. At the back, Harry along with newcomers Joshua and Ivan, defended with determination and distributed well to the attackers. Forwards Liam, Tadhg and Dylan were always a threat and all contributed to the scoreboard. For The Rock, captain Brody played his heart out and covered every blade of grass of the pitch despite only recently returning from injury. The O’Donnell brothers, Oisín in goals and Hugh in the backs, battled hard as they always do and were supported well by Jayce and Mason. The forwards, Daniel, Jack, Tomas and Ted, put is a huge effort and contributed to a great contest. Street of Champions: 2-8; The Rock: 2-5.
