Austin Stacks 0-14 Kilcummin 0-05
Our B team qualified for their first Co. Championship Final (Molyneaux Cup) since 2001 by virtue of a good win over Kilcummin on this Friday evening (24th Aug). The game, which had been switched to Rathmore, was played in dry conditions (lucky it wasn’t in Tralee as it would not probably have started and certainly wouldn’t have finished due to the deluge of rain that fell in the town during the evening). We got off to a great start with two of our half backs pointing early on – team captain, Seamus Bastible and Eoin Colgan. By the end of the first quarter we had added four more with Fiachna Mangan (2), Kyle Fitzgibbon and David Courtney on target. Then in the 16th minute Kilcummin got their first, and what turned out to be, their only score of the first half, while we went on to put over three more exquisite scores from Fiachna, Courts and Brendán Caball to leave us with a commanding lead at half time 0-9 to 0-1.
Kilcummin will rarely throw in the towel and they played much better in the second half, a half that we just shaded from a scoring point of view (0-5 to 0-4). Four of those points came from play by Danny Carroll, Theo Diggin (2) and Seamus Bastible again.
Our final score was the only one of the 14 that came from a free – by Joey O’Connor.
So we now await the winners of the 2nd semi final between Dr. Crokes and Laune Rangers which is not scheduled to take place until next Friday (31st Aug).
