U14 Girls: Both our A&B teams played Co. League Div 4 and Div 8 games during the week. Our A team were away to Spa Killarney last Sunday evening in Rd 2 and came away with their second victory in the county league tonight V Spa away in Killarney. Thanks to Cian for the following report: Stacks started confidently and had a good share of the possession in the first half with the wind at their backs. Goals from Ciara Trant and Ruth Dowling along with some well taken points from Eabha Maguire, Aoibhinn Hennessy , Sophie Quillinan and Lauren Lawlor saw stacks go into the half time break on a scoreline of Stacks 3-8 to Spa 1-1. Stacks defence held out really well in the first half with excellent displays from Maria O’Connell and Roisin Sheehy. Spa came back into the game in the second half before an excellent finish from Ruth Dowling kick started the Stacks attack once again. Further points from Lauren Lawlor and Sophie Quillinan kept Stacks ahead and Ciara Trant showed a cool head to pick her spot into the bottom corner for another well taken goal. Final Score Stacks 5-11 – Spa 2-2 Scorers Aoibhinn Hennessy 0-1 Lauren Lawlor 0-3 Eabha Maguire 0-1 Ruth Dowling 3-0 Ciara Trant 2-2 Sophie Quilinan 0-4 (Thanks to Cian O Sullivan for report) Terrys Butchers Shop In Co. League Div 4 Rd 3 fixed for May 12th we are away to Kilcummin .
Our B team played away to Spa Killarney last Monday evening FT Spa Killarney 1-1 Austin Stacks 6-7; Caoimhe Corcoran in goals found a target in black & amber with nearly every kick out, while also pulling off a few massive saves. The 5 defenders of Roisin, Clodagh Cunnane, Lucia, Eve and Eimear (scored a penalty) did exactly what was asked of them, not giving the Spa forwards an inch, and managing to get up the field to support their forwards. Our 3 midfielders of Kate, Sophie and Keira ran themselves in to the ground, dominating the kickouts with some great runs into space, and laying the foundations for a strong team performance. They managed to get up the field on numerous occasions and put in some great balls to the forwards. The 5 forwards of Emma, Clodagh Kennedy, Kayla, Mya and Lucy all proved a handful for the Spa defenders with their running off the ball. There were some great inter play and some cracking scoring chances taken. The effort shown by all 14 players was exactly what the coaches were looking for, especially in the second half when playing into a stiff breeze. With no subs to bring on, each and every one of them gave it their all and were rewarded with the victory.
HT score: 3-7 to 1-1
FT score: 6-7 to 1-1
Thanks to Spa for a good sporting game and thanks to all the parents for making the journey to Killarney, your support is greatly appreciated. In Co. League Div 8 Rd. 3 fixed for May 12th we are home Laune Rangers.
U16 Girls: We played our postponed North Kerry League Rd 1 game at home to KOR last Monday evening (April 22nd); A tough night at the office for our v young U16 girls team in our first competitive match of the year (only 3 of the team on the night were playing in their 16th year, the rest all U15) . Final score AS 1-6 to KOR 2-12. Given that our training has been somewhat stop & start due to the bad weather & also that we were missing a couple of players, we were delighted to be in control of the first 20 minutes of the match. However, our shooting let us down and by half time we trailed by 3 points 1-6 to 1-3. A lobbed ball into the square resulted in a fortuitous second goal for KOR early in the second half and they tagged on a few more points, while we were wasteful at the other end. We were delighted with the girls’ effort and spirit right to the end. It’s early days and a lot more football to be played this year!
