AS Juvenile notes – September 7th

September 7, 2026 By Maurice MacNamara

PEIL FAOI 6:Great football was played once again in Caherslee. Our U6 Academy boys
will have more football fun on Sunday morning next, 13 th September. But…but our Thursday
football has finished for this year! (N.Eoin Ó hÉigeartaigh)

PEIL FAOI 8: (i) Our U8 action will continue on Thursday (10 th and 17 th ) again. (ii) We’ll
have no…no…no U8 football on SUNDAY next as our lads will be resting after their
exertions at Saturday’s blitz in Cillín (Na Gaeil). And, so, we impart our good wishes to our
U8 boys who’ll be taking part in the Na Gaeil blitz on Saturday. Have a great time, boys!
(N.Eoin Ó hÉigeartaigh)

AR AIS AR SCOIL: We hope that all our scholars, young and old, have settled into a new
and exciting school year. Go n-éirí go geal libh a bhuachaillí! Na blianta órga!!

PEIL FAOI 10: (i) Good luck on Saturday (12 th September), boys, at the Salthill/Cnoc na
Cathrach Club Blitz! Galway, here we come as one of the 19 clubs…32 teams…in this 9-
aside competition. Agus, le cúnamh Dé, beidh an-lá ag buachaillí na Carraige sa Ghaillimh!
(ii) U10 GoGames: we look forward to the upcoming challenge v Ard Fhearta this
Wednesday (9 th ) in Ardfert. (iii) U10 GoGames: on Wednesday, 16 th , we’ll travel to Cill
Chuimín for another GoGames outing. (iv) Watch for texts in case of Sunday and/or
Thursday football. (v) Our sympathies to our mentor, Ger Breen, on the passing of his
brother, Enda. Beannacht Dé le hanam Éanna. (Colm Ó Mongáin)

PEIL FAOI 11/12: (i) Our U12s took on St Pats last week. We played against their full U12
team with mostly U10/11 boys as a dozen of our U12 lads were as láthair. Despite
everything, our warriors played brilliantly and showed the classic Rock attitude and fighting
spirit. We played two games; we won one well with excellent teamwork, beautiful kick-
passing and fierce determination. The second game was a great battle and, even though we
were behind by six or seven points at the final whistle, our brave boys never gave up! It was a
fantastic display of heart, effort and resilience; the coaches were extremely proud of the boys’
attitude. (ii) We’ll have our full squad back in action for a blitz in Ballymac this coming
Saturday. (iii) We played An Daingean on Friday and had a brilliant outing. Well done, lads!
(Cóilín Ó Tíocháin)

PEIL FAOI 13: Our U13 boys drew with An Daingean in Round 1 of Phase 2 of the Central
League in a very entertaining game with a very very exciting finish! Well done, boys! Great
football played! (Jonathan Magnier)

PEIL FAOI 14: (i) Our U14s had a very satisfactory victory over our Gaeil neighbours in the
District League semi-final.…5-21 v 1-7….bua cuimsitheach, gan aon agó! Imríodh an cluiche
i gConnolly Park oíche Dé Domhnaigh. The final has been scheduled for this Wednesday, 9 th
September, and the game will take place at 6.30pm in Castlegregory. Beidh buachaillí na
Carraige ag imirt in aghaidh bhuachaillí na Gaeltachta. (ii) The Lee Strand/Denis O’Connor
U14 Tournament will take place on Saturday next, 12 th September. This will be the 40 th year
of the Tournament. The first tournament was played in 1986 and was won by The Rock. Our
club captain that day was none other than Armin Heinrich Senior agus b’iontach an captaen
é! Excitement is rapidly building up as our large, dedicated and experienced team of
organisers and workers are preparing for one of the most prestigious tournaments in the land.
And, as one might expect, our Rock boys will strive might and main to retain the cup! Lee
Strand Co-operative Creamery Ltd is sponsoring this event once again! Yes, Lee Strand has
maintained 40 years of unbroken sponsorship for this highly-regarded competition.

Bail ó Dhia ar lucht bainistíochta Thrá Lí (Lee Strand). The official launch of the tournament took
place in Connolly Park on Monday last. Good wishes to our lads and good wishes to the
organisers! This is a long-standing and well-run affair. It is expected to be well supported and
well attended. The standard of football in this competition is always of the highest quality;
the hallmarks of this tournament are skill, effort, determination and, gan dabht, competition.
Expectations are high and we’ll meet and challenge the best of Gaelic footballers from top-
class clubs. A great day for The Rock. (Jonathan Magnier)

PEIL 16: No action until the Town League starts! Idir an dá linn, boys, stay well, keep fit
and practise your skills regularly! We eagerly await the Town League fixtures. (Gearóid Ó
Tíocháin)

NA MIONÚIR: Our minor boys’ season keeps rolling as we have qualified, by virtue of our
third-place group finish, for the semi-final of the Shield Championship. We play South Kerry
in this semi-final on this Thursday night…venue to be decided. The season has been a roller-
coaster for our minors; we had a final defeat in the Club Championship as well as a dramatic
penalty shoot-out win in the County League Shield Competition. Our mighty minors: Conor
O’Regan; Fionn Cotter, Darragh Lyons, Oran O’Donoghue; Mark Riordan, Ben Litchfield,
David Hobbert; Alex Touhy, Paddy Lucid; Jayden Moriarty, Harry Murphy, Jack Diggin; Jay
Sweeney, Danny Lane, Jake Carmody; Haulie Cotter, Joe Barry, Denis Brassil, Nathan
O’Connor, Seán Clifford, Eoin Mangan, Barry Laide, David Aherne, Jayden O’Dowd, Ewen
Canty, Ryan O’Carroll, Rory Lynch. An Charraig Abú! (T.Mac Mathúna)

SEANRÁ: Beatha teanga í a labhairt, a deirtear!

AG FOGHLAIM: ‘Like to learn or relearn your Irish? Or begin again! Why not? Carmel
Quilter is working at recruiting some learners…give her a shout má tá spéis agat a bheith
páirteach! The language is ours! The GAA supports, per constitution, the use of Irish. A
múinteoir Gaeilge has been rercruited and is willing and waiting! Give it a go! Bain triail as!

Saturday last. Almost made it! Tá brón orainn go léir ach táimid cinnte go n-éireoidh Dara
agus a chuid fear arís agus go n-ullmhóidh siad go dian dícheallach do chomórtas mór an
Chontae! An Charraig go deo!
