Molyneaux Cup Round 1
Sunday 6th September Connolly Park 12pm
Austin Stacks 0-15
Dingle 0-9
Our B team produced an impressive performance in blustery conditions against a strong Dingle side to get their Molyneaux Cup campaign off to a winning start.
The game was effectively won during a six-minute spell in the second quarter when David Mannix, fresh off the plane from Australia, kicked four superb two-pointers (three frees and one from play) with the aid of the wind to put us in a commanding position. Those scores helped us build a 0-11 to 0-3 lead by half-time.
Dingle battled hard to close the gap in the second half and, were it not for a number of excellent saves from goalkeeper Ben Quilter, the finish could have been far more nervy. At midfield, Dave Fitzmaurice and Colm Browne both delivered outstanding performances and were instrumental in steadying the ship when Dingle mounted a second-half surge. Padraig O’Halloran in the full-back line, Adam Curran at centre-back and Jordan Kissane also turned in strong displays as part of an excellent overall team performance.
We were able to field a strong side, with several senior panellists providing a solid backbone to the team. They blended well with the group that secured promotion to Division 4 of the County League earlier in the year. If we can continue to field teams of this calibre throughout the competition, we should be firmly in contention.
Well done to all the players and management on an excellent start to the campaign.
