SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONS.
The 12th May 1929 also fell on a Sunday, so it’s exactly 90 years ago to the day and date that the Club won the first of our three SH Co. Championships. It was the 1928 Final and Rock Street (as we were known then) defeated Boherbee (as they were known then) by 4-2 to 0-2.
The game was played in the Sportsfield (not yet named as Austin Stack Park) and after a rather tame low-scoring first half the sides went in at half time with a point each on the board – James Sheehan on target for us. However we took complete control in the second period outscoring the opposition by 4-1 to 0-1. After Boherbee opened the scoring at the beginning of that second half we quickly added two goals from Johnny Roche and Rucky Kelly. Jimmy Kelter then pointed before two James Sheehan goals rounded off a very comprehensive win for the Rock.
