Our Under 16A team returned to winning ways with an impressive 21pt victory in sunny Strand Road on Thursday evening. Much was riding on this game but with Eoghan McKivergan, Aidan McQuinn and Shane Greensmith returning to the side we started our strongest 15 yet. Barry Walsh revelled in his new role in the middle of the field, ably assisted by captain Joseph O’Kelly. This allowed Greg Horan to take up a more customnary position at centre forward with James Galvin and Éamonn McAllen flanking him brilliantly on the wings. Breandán Caball was the provider-in-chief to Kyle Fitzgibbon who contributed a handsome 1-6 in the first half to leave us 3-9 to 1-3 up at half time. However, it was the half back line of Conor Jordan, Seán Ryan (who goaled in the first half) and the outstanding Dylan Harnett who drove the game on in the second half .With Tommy Nicholson dependable as usual in the corner and Brian Horgan showing admirable concentration in saving a penalty we tagged on the scores throughtout the second period. Adam Barrett, Niall Carroll-Cane, Anthony Moynihan and Ciarán Flanagan were introduced in the latter stages and it was “Flanman” who put the icing on the cake as he crashed an unstoppable shot to the Strand Road net in the dying moments.
