U13: The Sandra Keane U13 Blitz took centre stage last weekend for our U-13 squad which took place in glorious weather in the John Mitchel’s GAA grounds. Stacks were in group D alongside Annascaul/Castlegregory, Finuge/St Senans and Southern Gael B.
Round 1 was a close encounter with a determined Annascaul/Castlegregory team. Our girls edged it 1-5 to 1-3. Next up were a physically strong Finuge/St. Senans team. This didn’t phase our girls as we ran out winners on a scoreline 3-03 to 0-02. Into our final group game with confidence high the girls played expansive, intelligence football as they moved the ball around the field. This led to some fantastic team scores. As group winners we were now into the Cup Competition and when the open draw took place it pitted us against a talented and skillful Abbeydorney team. From the off, it was clear that the Stacks girls were up for this one, playing with aggression, skill and passion they gave as good as they got. The girls certainly saved their best performance for this game. At half time it was 3 points all and the game was still in the melting pot. In the second half Abbeydorney tagged on a point from a free and then struck a goal. It was now that we saw the true grit of our team who never gave up. Fighting back they scored a cracker of a team goal. Late on in the game Abbeydorney kicked over another free. The girls gave it everything in their final game and as a coaching group we are extremely proud of them. Heads up girls, beidh lá eile againn.

U14 Girls : U14A North Kerry Div 3 our final round game V Beale took place at 6.45pm on Mon (Sept 9th) in Connolly Park. Thanks to Martina for the following report: It was another fantastic performance this evening from our AS U14A team when they took on Beale U14A’s in Connolly Park in round 3 of the North Kerry League. An outstanding show of true grit and determination by this team kept Beale to only two scores for the entire game. Arina, in goals, proved herself once again with some great saves and showing no fear. The backs were absolutely superb, giving Beale little chance of getting into position to take effective shots. The girls showed great courage blocking and turning over possession. There was great passing and reading the play of the game. The forwards were put to the test by some very strong Beale defending. Every score was hard fought. The team was Eve McEvoy (Captain (1-0)), Arina Sucaci, Maria O Connell, Clodagh Cunnane, Chloe O Halloran, Lauren Lawlor (0-1), Roisin Sheehy, Aoibhínn Hennessy (1-4), Mary Gibbons, Shauna Quigley, Ruth Dowling (0-6), Sophie Quillinan (0-1), Mya Dennehy (1-0), Clodagh Kennedy (1-0). Final score AS 4-12, Beale 1-1.
The win ensures our place in this year’s U14 North Kerry League Div 3 Final.

U14B: North Kerry League Div 7 we were home to KOR (B) at 7pm on Monday (Sept 2nd); Austin Stacks girls U14B served up a batting performance against a strong Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s team this evening in Connolly Park and came away with a share of the spoils. The girls hit the ground running with a display of fielding, soloing, passing, tackling, and scoring that made for a ding dong battle between two evenly matched teams. Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s opened the scoring with a goal but this was cancelled out by goals from Mya Dennehy and Clodagh Kennedy. However, despite Stacks pressure Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s fought their way back into the game and went in at the break leading on a scoreline of 4-3 to 3-3. The start of the second half saw Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s extend the lead but the Stacks girls never gave up and kept attacking right up to the final minute when a goal from Ruth Dowling levelled the game just before the final whistle. The game ended with Austin Stacks 5-8 to Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s 6-5. The Austin Stacks team was Caoimhe Corcoran, Eabha May Horgan, Eve McEvoy, Sadie Mazurek, Ciara Cronin, Kate O’Shea, Roisin Sheehy (0-2) Sophie Quillinan, Ruth Dowling (1-5), Clodagh O’Sullivan, Mya Dennehy (3-1), Kayla Pigott, Sophie Pigott and Clodagh Kennedy (1-0). Playing with the wind in the first half we went score for score with Beale, Ruth Dowling getting some great scores and with Eve McEvoy scoring a monster point. Half time score: Beale 2-3 to Stacks 1-5. Playing into the wind in the second half it was always going to be a tough task, but the girls battled gamely. Ruth, Sophie Quillinan and Kate O’Shea took some well worked scores. Sophie Piggot and captain Clodagh O’Sullivan switched to defence for this game and both girls put in massive shifts. Stacks were right in this game until the final 10mins when Beale scored a number of fine goals. The girls gave it everything and never gave up, battling right to the final whistle. Senior Ladies: Bon Secours Hospital Intermediate Co. Championship Rd 3: Austin Stacks 2-5 Scartaglin 2-13. Played in Connolly Park on Monday Sept 2nd, Stacks playing without several regulars lost out to a very well drilled Scartaglin side but not without one hell of a battle. Supporters were treated to four goals in the first half, 2 a piece. Stacks goals coming from Holly O Brien & Megan O Brien. Not for the first time this season Austin Stacks goalie, Chloe Fitzpatrick, was outstanding throughout. Scartaglin eventually opted to take their points instead and were successful in converting some lovely scores from play. Scart ran out deserving winners on an evening where Stacks youngsters Eimear Dillane, Kara Kirby and substitute Emily Flynn showed they have exactly what it takes to (hopefully) play senior club football for many years to come.
