U14 Girls : A great victory by our U14 A girls team last Wed Aug 28th away to Shannonside/Tarbert in Round 2 of the North Kerry League Div 3. The players showed great skill and accuracy in this game in both their hand and kick passing. There were super individual performances by all from the goal line, through the backs, midfield and forward line including subs.
The first half was tight with only a goal separating the sides at half time (Stacks 2-5 to Tarbert 1-5). The second half, with the wind to our backs and two early scores, confidence building, a wonderful exhibition of football by our girls followed. Suburb defending, tackling, blocking and turnovers led to fantastic scores. Tonight’s win was down to brilliant teamwork throughout the game of which the girls can be very proud of themselves. Maith Sibh.
The team was as follows: Arina Sucaci, Eabha Mai Horgan, Clodagh Cunnane, Eve McEvoy, Mary Gibbons, Chloe O Halloran, Maria O Connell, Lauren Lawlor (1-1), Roisin Sheehy, Sophie Quillinan, Amelie O Sullivan (1-5), Shauna Quigley (0-1), Ruth Dowling (0-8), Ciara Trant, Eabha Maguire (2-0), Mya Dennehy, Clodagh Kennedy (0-1).
Final Score: Austin Stacks 4-16 to Tarbert 2-6. We have 1 more round in the league remaining V Beale. This game goes ahead in Asdee at 7pm on Mon Sept 9th.
U14B: North Kerry League Div 7 we were home to KOR (B) at 7pm on Monday (Sept 2nd)
North Kerry Ladies Football U14 Div 7: Austin Stacks girls U14B served up a battling performance against a strong Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s team this evening in Connolly Park and came away with a share of the spoils. The girls hit the ground running with a display of fielding, soloing, passing, tackling, and scoring that made for a ding dong battle between two evenly matched teams.
Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s opened the scoring with a goal but this was cancelled out by goals from Mya Dennehy and Clodagh Kennedy. However, despite Stacks pressure Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s fought their way back into the game and went in at the break leading on a scoreline of 4-3 to 3-3.
The start of the second half saw Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s extend the lead but the Stacks girls never gave up and kept attacking right up to the final minute when a goal from Ruth Dowling levelled the game just before the final whistle.
The game ended with Austin Stacks 5-8 to Kerin’s O’Rahilly’s 6-5.
The Austin Stacks team was Caoimhe Corcoran, Eabha May Horgan, Eve McEvoy, Sadie Mazurek, Ciara Cronin, Kate O’Shea, Roisin Sheehy (0-2) Sophie Quillinan, Ruth Dowling (1-5), Clodagh O’Sullivan, Mya Dennehy (3-1), Kayla Pigott, Sophie Pigott and Clodagh Kennedy (1-0).

Minors: Minor Co. League Div 5 Final: Austin Stacks 2-17 Beale 2-3 (report by Niall Lucey) On a sunny but perpetually breezy Churchill Lissodeige Pitch, our Minor Ladies lined out to face Beale in the County League Division 5 Final on Wednesday Aug 28th, 2024. The ground was dry and conditions were good for football. The man in the middle was Billy Lacey who ruled with his usual balance and fairness. Stacks got off to a solid start with a point from play from Penny Costello. It wasn’t long before Holly O’Brien and Grace Lucid added two more. But Beale got going again with a well taken goal and our girls went back to chipping away at the points with Saoirse Moriarty and Deirdre Quigley adding to our tally. Amy Scanlon and Aoife Begley worked hard and were unlucky not to score. Fair play to our defence, our full back line of Aine Gibbons, Emily Flynn and Shauna Harris held steady while our half backs of Deirdre Quigley, Eimear Dillane and Kara Kirby raided as much as defended. Isabel Cushen and Emma Dunican came on in the full back line in the second half and contributed to steadying the ship when Beale looked like challenging our dominance. The midfield was tireless with Lucy O’Connor and Ellen Lucey running their socks off up and down the field. Upfront, our forwards continued their press with Amber Ryan and Aoibhinn Hennessy (still playing U14’s football!) came on to score and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Having put one or two shots astray, Saoirse Moriarty overcame her frustration and rattled the back of the net with a bullet of a shot midway through the second half, as more of an answer to her own inner critic than anyone else – brilliant! The girls ran out comfortable winners in the end but it was an overall team performance from a lovely bunch of girls that the coaches are Most pleased with. A lot of football to come from these girls in the years ahead!
