Ladies Club News 24th July, 2024.

U12 Girls:  Great effort by all the girls last Wednesday evening in Killorglin. Thanks to the referees and Laune Rangers for the challenge games. Last Sunday as part of the LGFA 50th Anniversary celebrations we participated in the U12 County Blitz at the Kerry GAA Centre of Excellence, it was a super afternoon and we had a ball.  Thanks to Adrienne for her photos from the day.

Club Summer Camp: The dates for the Austin Stacks Club Summer Camp for both boys and girls will take place in Connolly Park from Tuesday August 6th to Saturday August 10th from 9.30am to 1pm daily.

U14 Girls:  We played a challenge game V Annascaul/Castlegregory in Connolly Park last Wednesday evening. Well done girls.  Training continues in Connolly park as usual this week.

U16 Girls:   U16’s Girls County League Division 3 Rd. 2 away to Beaufort on Thurs July 18th. Beaufort 5-9 – Austin Stacks 4-8. Stacks tonight went deep into the heart of Mid Kerry to face a very strong Beaufort Team in Round 2 of the County League. Managed by one of our own Stacks Super Rockies, Donal McEvoy, who now lives in the area and whose daughter Eabha is on the Beaufort team, Beaufort represented a considerable challenge as were last years Division one winners. On a massive pitch, in the foothills of Carauntoohill, Beaufort got out of the blocks with a blistering start and led 2-2 to 0-1 after the first quarter. The water break came with welcome relief. Most teams would have curled up and died, but not our girls. The girls recovered their composure and rallied superbly scoring three goals and a couple of points and went into the lead by 3 points at the HT break. The third quarter saw the girls working so hard and continued to pin on scores and increased their lead to 4 points at the second water break. Credit to a well managed Beaufort side with a lot of running they hit the front with 5 minutes to go and our girls (with a few games played already this week) couldn’t hold on. The referee Jason O’Brien was very fair and balanced throughout and used the advantage rule well. Credit to our girls for a fine footballing performance that will live long in the memory for those present. Credit also to Donal McEvoy for his nice words to our girls after the match was over and showed pure class in graciousness in victory. Minor Ladies:  Our girls advanced to this year’s Minor Co League Div 5 final last Tuesday evening thanks to Niall Lucey for the following report:  Summer Starts Here! A great win for our Minor girls tonight (July 16th) in the County League Div 5 Semi Final V Kilcummin-Currow in Connolly Park. Our girls put in an excellent performance from the throw-in, with a superb solo run in from Eimear Dillane who offloaded to Saoirse Moriarty to finish to the net. And so it continued, with lovely scores added by all the forwards, Holly O’Brien, Grace Lucid, Deirdre Quigley, Aoife Begley and Penny Costello, each winning their respective battles with intricate passing resulting in some fine scores. The midfielders of Lucy O’Donnell and Ellen Lucey worked hard and ran, while Kara Kirby, Eimear Dillane and Amy Scanlon kept their markers quiet and pressed high up the pitch. Aisling Browne kept a clean sheet and delivered the goods when asked. The backs of Aoibhinn Hennessy, Aine Gibbons, Isabel Cushen (her first minor match) and Shauna Harris were all brilliant in their marking and tackling. Ashleigh Horan and Amber Ryan chipped in when needed and also put in a workmanlike (or workwomanlike) performance. We finished well and thoroughly deserved our Final berth. Thanks to Kilcummin-Currow for travelling. Some Signs of Summer are more obvious than others. But football with a dry ball on a warm July’s evening in the sunshine in Connolly Park is certainly one, especially when you’re winning. On a day when we laid our good friend and Stacks Legend Tadhg McMahon to his eternal rest, we think he would have been pleased to see that some things don’t change.

Subs used: Penny Costelloe (2-0), Eimear O Sullivan, Grainne Carmody (2-0), Ciara Nix & Sophie Norris. In Rd 3 we are away to Kilcummin at 7pm on Monday July 29th

 

Gaelic for Mothers & Others:  We train every Monday night @7pm in Connolly Park. We are encouraging new players to sign up, no judgements, it’s all about the craic, no football experience necessary contact Melissa on (087) 792 5605. We hope to play a challenge game V JM this Wednesday evening July 24th.

Kerry: Good Luck to Lucy O Connor & the Kerry Minors in the All Ireland U18A final V Cavan this Sat 27th July. Throw in is at 2pm in Tullamore. We also send our congratulations to Aoife Dillane, Darragh Long and the Kerry Ladies who qualified for this year’s Senior AI Final V Galway on Aug 4th by virtue of their win over Armagh in the Semi Final last Saturday.  Absolutely fantastic achievement well doen everyone.
