Beidh fáilte roimh chách….everybody welcome. Just pop along to Mounthawk…and bring a friend….the more the merrier. Be part of the Black‘n’Amber! The same again next Sunday, boys!

PEIL FAOI 13: ‘The ball is in and the game is on…!’ a déarfadh Mícheál O’Hehir fadó fadó. The U13 ‘23 season is well and truly in full swing! The Rock is on the march! On Friday last the boys started 2023 with their first night of real action up at the Kerry Sports Academy, Munster Technological University, Dromtacker, Tralee, V92 CX88. Jack Ó Muireagáin/Morgan, our former Kerry Minor star, put them through their paces with an excellent fun and enjoyment session. The enthusiasm, energy and skill displayed by our young players bodes well for the year ahead. Tá an tús maith déanta…..go leana siad le díograis agus le díocas agus le dúthracht agus le spiorad agus le sponc (focloir.ie)!! (D.Ahern)

COLÁISTÍ….ROCK PLAYERS IN COLLEGE GAMES: (i) ‘Well done’ to the Mercy Mounthawk U19 senior boys who played Clonakilty Community College in the quarter-final of the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition on Wednesday 18thJanuary. The Rock boys: Paddy Lane, Daniel Kirby, Cillian Litchfield, Michael Tansley, Jack Murphy, Ben Murphy, Noah Townsend, Liam Carmody.(ii) (a) The Gaelcholáiste Gaiscígh Faoi 16½ made for Banteer early Friday morning in a packed bus and with high expectations of a cath caide in aghaidh mhuintir Chionn tSáile! This encounter made for rather entertaining viewing: the Gaelcholáiste, though behind after the initial furious flurry of play from foireann chumasach Chionn tSáile, resolved to chip away at their opponents’ lead with a brand of football that the pundits deemed to be very easy on the eye. Among the highlights were 3 perfect points by Marc Ó Loinsigh, ably assisted by his brother, Rory, a great stint in the forward line by Gavin díograiseach Ó Cathasaigh agus báire den chéad scoth ó Liam Cúipéir. While the final score was not in their favour, ár Laochra Gael fhéin proved that they had buckets of determination against this almighty Cork force. Maith sibh, a leaideanna……tiocfaidh sibh chugaibh féin gan stró ar bith! (b) ‘Well done’ to the Sinsir (Faoi 19 ~ Corn Sheáin Uí Mhurchú) who met Coláiste Rís, Inis, in Rathkeale on Wednesday (18ú); an interesting battle ensued. You certainly gave you all, boys! (D.Ó Loingsigh)(iii) The Tralee CBS (Faoi 16½) boys are due to face Coláiste Bhréanainn in the final of the Dunloe Cup (Kerry colleges) competition. Best wishes to Ryan O’Driscoll, Rónán O’Carroll, Fionnán Ryan and Donnacha Horgan.

AN RAIBH ‘FHIOS AGAT? Only three referees have refereed senior hurling and senior football All-Irelands in the same year….Jimmy Flaherty from Tullamore in 1939, John Dowling also from Tullamore in 1960 and Jimmy Hatton from Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow, in 1966. (Cén contae ina bhfuil An Tulach Mhór?) This distinct feat is not likely to be repeated as the rules have been changed and the rules now state that a referee may only officiate at one senior All-Ireland final in the same year. However, Jimmy Hatton went a step further than the Offaly men as he also refereed the 1966 minor hurling final between Cork and Wexford….three All-Ireland finals in the same year! And let’s remind ourselves that we should always respect the man/woman with the whistle. Bíodh meas againn ar an réiteoir!
ALL-IRELANDS: Comhghairdeachas leis An Ráth Mhór agus le Fosadh. Ciarraí Abú! An mbeidh Club ársa Aibhistín de Staic in áit na Rátha Móire an bhliain seo chugainn?
SINSIR CHIARRAÍ: Best wishes to Dylan, Jack’O and Greg in their next Green‘n’Gold outing. An Charraig Abú!
MÓR-CHOMHGHAIRDEACHAS: Congratulations to our club’s two new presidents: Aidan O’Connor and Noreen Power. Well-deserved honours. Gura fada buan iad!
