16B’s Advance to county semi final despite defeat

Our U16B’s went down to Scartaglin/Cordal in a pulsating game in Connolly Park on Wednesday evening. This game was in effect the decider as to who would top the Division 7 table and early on it looked like it would be the Rockies 2nd string. Richard Hurley along with Sam Nealon was at the heart of everything for the Rock but score of the night came in the 20th minute when Ciaran Flanagan incredibibly kicked a line ball through the trees to the onrunning Hurley for a unique score. Flanagan himself netted our only goal in the 12th minute and we led at the break 1-5 to 0-4. However, Scart/Cordal emerged after the break a rejuvenated outfit and three 2nd half goals put them in the acendancy. Craig Corcoran revelling in his new outfield role linked well with the improving Anthony Moynihan in defence but despite unrelenting pressure late on, including a missed penalty, we went down by three.
