The football season for Boys U7, 9 and 11 concluded in a sunny Connolly Park on Sunday 22nd October. The morning’s games began with Brian Caball leading off the parade on the Nuns Field. Everyone stood to attention for his rendition of ‘Amhrán na bhFíann’ before the finals commenced on the Nuns Field and the Main pitch. The boys U9 contested for the Jimmy Barry Memorial Cup, the Bracker O’Regan Memorial Cup and the Paddy Drummond Memorial Cup.
Martin and Carmel O’Regan presented the Bracker O’Regan Cup to U9 joint captains, Dean Ferriter and Darragh Counihan. Joan Barry presented the Jimmy Barry Cup to U9 captain Ciarán Murphy. Tim McMahon presented his granduncle’s trophy, the Paddy Drummond Cup to U9 captain, Ruane Lawlor.
The U7 boys played their finals on the main pitch, and were all presented with medals and refreshments and stood in for a group picture afterwards.
The U11 boys were treated to a pizza party after their finals. Colm Mangan co-ordinated events in the clubrooms and introduced the history and stories behind the John Galvin and Garry Fernane Cups to the U11 squad and family members present. Minor club footballers, Paddy Lane and Ben Murphy presented the Cups and medals to all the players. U11 captain, Hugh Brassil received the John Galvin Cup from Paddy Lane and U11 captain, Jamie Quillinan received the Garry Fernane Cup from Ben Murphy.
A successful conclusion to a busy and enjoyable season. Many thanks to all who made it happen, trainers, club officials and families…a team effort!
